Gordon Kirkland has entertained audiences throughout North America, with his relaxed sense of humour, focusing on the events of day to day life.
Three of his books, have received Canada's Stephen Leacock Award of Merit for Humour. His fifth book, I May Be Big But I Didn't Cause That Solar Eclipse , was launched June 1 st , 2007, at BookExpo-America in New York, where he was one of the featured autographing authors.
As often as not, Kirkland is poking fun at himself. He says that it is important to let his readers and audiences laugh at him, with him, but most importantly, at themselves as they see the events of their lives described in his material about marriage, parenting, dog ownership, and life in these times.
When one of Gordon Kirkland's stories was placed into the Harry Chapin Archives, it encouraged him to follow Harry's lead and 'just do something.' Chapin used his public personae to raise money for World Hunger Year, and encouraged other entertainers to get behind projects they felt were important in today's society. Today, The Harry Chapin Foundation provides small grants to organizations that are doing something positive in arts, education, and hunger relief.
In that spirit, Gordon Kirkland has created the 'Do Something' Program For Community Arts Groups And Theatres, to help raise funds for theatre capital projects, production expenses, and most importantly, youth programs.
The program includes:
. A 60% reduction in Gordon's appearance fee
. $1.00 from the sale of each book sold during the appearance
. Participation in pre-show events for sponsors
. Assistance with advertising materials
. Media appearances to assist in the promotion of the appearance
Because of the popularity of this program, you are encouraged to book a date well in advance.
